Alright, I have a Tumblr account, but I'm at a loss of what to actually do with it... Would any of the fabulous Tumblr users mind giving a little background and some tips? Thanks!

It can be anything you want! You don't have to have a specific topic, it's essentially your canvas to fill as you wish.
The only cardinal rule on Tumblr is "Reblog, don't Repost". In other words if you see something you like & want on your blog, hit the reblog button on the other person's site. Don't ever save it to your hard drive & post it as your own.

Hey - another stupid tumblr question.... I thought that my dashboard was actually showing me posts in the tags that I "track" but it looks like that is not the case, the dashboard only shows posts from the blogs I follow. Does anyone know if this is a setting? Can you force your dashboard to show the tags you track, or does it only ever show the blogs you follow? I'm not sure what the point of following a tag is, if you can't make it show in your dashboard?

Tracked tags have always been a separate place from your dashboard. Recently they've been moved to inside the "search tags" button on the upper right. Once you click in there, you'll see the tags you've tracked.
Sometimes you want to look at the posts in a tag but you don't want ALL those posts on your dash all the time.
If I had to see all the "Downton Abbey" or "John Bates" posts on my dash all the time, I'd be homicidal.
