What do you all make of it?
First things first... Prison Bates gets a thumbs up from me, love the stubble and hair to die for. Yum.
As for the acting, superb as usual but did we expect anything less? Little disappointed he has only been in it for a total of ten minutes so far but they can't keep him in for much longer, surely?
Looking forward to how this weekends episode will pan out. I wonder whose stopping the letters?

I've enjoyed the show so far. A lot of people complain about how little anna/bates we are getting, but the first two series were the same, some episodes they had 2 minutes of screening time, some they had 10. Anyway, i do believe they'll get a more centric episode like we had with tom and edith. it'll happen.

I'm a bit bored about Anna and Bates plot line, though I love them and every second they are on tv, but I think they should have written a richer plot. What about poeple asking Anna how's Bates, and Thomas or O'brien teasing her or something. And what about Craig teasing Bates about Anna, and him reading Anna's letters, or smiling to her picture. something like that. Now about the missing letters I don't know why but I think Craig has something to do with it.. Remember when the guards appeared on their cell? Well that's because someone (Craig) told them to. And I think him and that officer are like "friends" and he's kind of paying him for that to happen. Can't wait for the next episode and the one after that =D

Well prison Bates looks GORGEOUS. Stubble, hair - everything's working for me. BUT, 10 minutes?! 10 freaking minutes is all they get?! I know I shouldn't be surprised because it's not like they got more screen time last series but I can't help but feel disappointed. It's like the story is a bit stuck. It's dragging and I'm getting frustrated. Fellowes is being lazy when it comes to Bates. Some things were not explained like Craig - why does he hate him so much? At least when Thomas was on his case we knew it's because of the job but what's up with Craig? He uses the word "pious" like he knows Bates and it's juts weird that we don't get any explanations about that. And why is the other prisoner helping Bates? It's these little things I feel we need to know about even if they aren't THAT important. I can't wait for the next ep I hope it'll be his last one in jail!

I'm loving the rough and ready look of prison Bates, but have felt cheated after almost every ep so far this season because of the little screen time he's had.
I'm really hoping they'll make up for it with a Anna/Bates centric episode!

I think they will eventually give Anna and Bates a good episode where they have a lot more to do. I know they were almost done filming by the time the Emmy noms came out, but really, these two are some of the most popular characters, so hopefully Fellowes gets that... At least we can all hope.

When it's all over I expect a spin off entitled 'Bates Motel' and nothing else.

I had been pretty happy with season until episode 3...
While I'm disappointed that Anna and Bates havn't had more screen time, I'm more frustrated with who is getting it...
Downton for one... I feel like we spent three episodes yammering on and on and on about losing the place, when we all KNEW that Matthew would save it. And while I enjoyed Shirley McClain, that was just one more character that I felt was taking screen time. Same thing with Alfred, I like him... he is a good addition, but I feel like he has had more screen time than Daisy, and Sybil honestly.. And then finally... I'm tired of the petty bickering between Obrien and Thomas, we get it... you are evil, go be evil. After you've watched a woman kill an unborn baby, and a guy blow is own hand off to avoid the war... these petty little pranks and such are annoying.

I'm filled to the brim with M/M. Enough already! We need more Prison Bates. There are so many wasted opportunities, so many visits not had. I honestly don't understand some of prison story. Why are they targeting him? What was that he stuffed in the convenient hole in the wall?
How can Fellowes have talent like that and not use it? I could be wrong but I can't imagine B. was happy with S3.
I have hopes that we'll get so much more from here on out, but they definitely let the prison storyline run way too long.

I'm a bit tired of M\M and S\T happiness! they could be happy and so (I don't really care about them, my thing is Edith, R\C, Violet and downstairs staff) but not until my babies are happy too! Yes i'm that bitchy!

Naturally I'm not happy with the lack of screen time for Mr Bates but I honestly don't see how we could expect him to be exonerated so quickly. Even with Lord Grantham's approval, Anna surely can't spend much time out and about gathering clues. Plus she'd have to get the evidence pushed through the legal system and that won't happen quickly. What I miss is Lord Grantham's involvement. Has he even mentioned it yet? Yeah, I know he was going to lose the house and all but really... I'm hoping this weeks episode will resolve Ethel's 'story' so we can see the last of her. That's time that could have been filled by Anna and/or Bates. I like seeing Thomas on the defensive but I hope the battle between him and O'Brien don't take out any innocent bystanders. Edith is going to be interesting. Shame about last week but I think she's going to make something better of herself and outshine her sisters. I still have hopes that the remaining episodes will get better (ie : more Bates and Anna).

It's true that you can't expect Anna to be in the prison in her every scene, but maybe as someone else has said, Bates's relationships with other prisoners could have been explored a bit more. We don't really know why Craig started on him that night, or why in the first place Bates was unsure of him. And that random prisoner who warned him about Craig hiding the stuff in his bed, how does Bates know him?
I love any scene with Hugh Bon in, so Lord Grantham stuff is a winner for me, plus I love Robert Bathurst too so Edith/Strallan stuff has a big thumbs up from me. I really like Edith this year.
Although glad they got together in the end, I don't really care for M/M (or Marmat as the ship is known to me and my friend) and I've never really been a big fan of Tom/Sybil anyway as a couple so...

I can only guess what is really going on with Bates in prison. Not ONE of the prisoners or the screws have been fleshed out in any detail. They are like shadows you catch à glimpse of before they disappear. So is Bates for that matter. I THINK that Craig bribes the guard for his own reasons and Bates saw him. That is why he was threatened by Craig. I have NO idea what was found in the cell as the scène was too rushed. This isthe way JF operates. Brendan is always great in his scenes though.

Thanks, littleguinea, for posting the clips - that helps me in my long wait for January.
Theory # I don't know what about who's going to die .... Thomas. Bates is going to get out, eventually (I'm guessing ep 6), and he's got to get his job back, which leaves Thomas without a position - they won't need anther footman. Also, if O'Brien is gunning for him, he's going to be toast. Let's hope it's not suicide for love of the new guy.
Just a thought.
