I have the spoilers for 3x5 and 3x6 completely mixed up. But this is the episode that Anna makes a "break in the case" correct? And we should see that image of her as the warrior pixie?

Well that was a major bummer..... Why does he feel the need to kill people in the fifth episode of the series?

I'm sure I'll have additional feels. I just.. I can't believe he did it.
And I shall only confess this here to you fellow Brendanites, but there was this still small voice in the back of my head that said "Character death down". Bates is safe.
I think.. with this fellows guy, WHO THE FUCK KNOWS!

I think.. with this fellows guy, WHO THE FUCK KNOWS! I had that very same small little voice. But as you say, who knows with the Lord and Master, Julian Fellowes. He's the captain of our ship, he can choose wherever he'd like it to go. I really hope he doesn't do anything stupid next week. Listen to your wife, John! As for tonight... Incredible episode. Proof right there why it's the best show on British television at the moment. Allen Leech was immense. Lack of Banna made up for by just how gripping the episode was. You knew something was amiss from the moment Robert pushed for the other doctor. Dramatic, moving and heartbreaking. Just hope Robert and Cora can work through this. Although, how would you feel in Cora's position?

I would feel like my husband had just murdered my youngest daughter.
Honestly the first 35 minutes were completely boring to me, but when Mary came in and just announced that everyone was fine.. I knew. And it was crazy amazing the rest. I need a torrent so bad now, I was in such shock that I feel like I didn't really watch it.

*Sarcasm alert*
So I didn't see it, just watched the tumblr-feed. My new theory is that sex in Downton-verse is scary dangerous. It kills men (Pamuk). It leads to destitution and prostitution (Ethel). Now it kills women, too. The very thought of it was enough to make a mature man flee a crowded church, in terror of his life. (He probably just saved both himself and Edith in one dramatic gesture.) Bates, smarter than he looks, avoided it for years, only to succumb, and ... get convicted of murder. Is Matthew's wiener in danger now that he's sexually active? How did Robert and Cora survive so long, in such a dangerous universe?
And, yes, thank god it wasn't anyone downstairs.

And, yes, thank god it wasn't anyone downstairs. this^ for me there was a serious lack of Anna and Bates. but well it was Sybil's last episode so... Anna and Thomas scene was great. and even Sybil's death was, I never really cared for her, but it was such a great (in the sad sense of the word) scene and so convincing that I actually cried. but at least (for me) it was her and no one else. Also when Violet is crying and having trouble to walk because of the trauma... Wonderful actress. also Cora and Tom. and OMG doctor Clarckson was right! and I knew it, something was telling me that he was right this time. I liked when Mary said that she didn't want Bates in jail for one more hour, or something like that. And Craig and that bitch of officer. WTF! that is all very stupid. Also I don't trust Murray, I think he's dumb. next episode promo is scary for Bates, but I don't think he'll cut Craig, it'll be just a warning, which I think he deserves. Also I think it'll be the last episode with Bates in prison. and I hope I'm right. Fellowes really has to move foward with Bates now that Sybil is dead, Edith is going to write for the paper, and Mathew wants a baby. Everything is happening and Bates needs to get out of there. 3 episodes to go plus the Christmas special...get your work done Fellowes...lets us see Bates happy at once!

I shouldn't be so sarcastic, and I probably wouldn't if I'd seen the episode. Sybil and Branson were two characters I wanted to like, but they never quite convinced me. His habit of staring at her in the background of so many scenes looked more creepy than anything else. She seemed much more interested in leaving Downton than in being with him. It would have added a lot to have characters who cared about world events without seeming all cardboard-y. Not blaming the actors, here, just wishing I could have felt more for them.
And yeah, let's not keep the garter waiting.

I liked Sybil, although I didn't like Sybil/Branson. I literally could not believe that Fellowes would kill her, even when she started seizing and the doctors stood around like a couple of morons. I really thought the doc was going to do like a tracheotomy and help her or something. I thought the ep was great overall, although, like all Bates fans, I'm really tired of the 30 second Bates/Anna scenes. I just hope we actually get an end to that soon. Geez, this season is killing me.... AND I think Julian Fellowes hates all women. Just saying. (Sorry for the tumblr post repeat)

He sure does seem to have a thing about reproduction. Cora miscarries, Ethel is lucky enough to bear her son off-camera, so they both survive, and then Sybil dies. WTF? I know it's early 20th century, but if childbirth was that dangerous, we wouldn't be here.
On the other hand, his male characters can be very weird, too. I keep thinking Robert has had an entire personality transplant since season 1. Guess it's harder than we realize to keep a show going this long.

I do think Robert is nearing the end of his usefulness now. He used to be charming and lovable, now he is turning into an old curmudgeon who is stuck in his ways. And Mary needs to stop supporting him in everything. Those two. Ugh.

I was disappointed how little we saw of Robert dealing with Sybil's death. No tears, just disbelief at her deathbed and some guilt later on that didn't feel all that genuine to me. Can't decide if it's Fellowes or Hugh or the director's fault.
